Our chipmunks have been
very busy adding new
products to our store.
 We still feature our
chipmunks on our mugs,
t-shirts, sweatshirts, and
hoodies, but we've also
added many new decorative
items.  We especially
like our new I-pod and
I-pad covers and new
items for babies in
addition to water bottles
and thermos containers.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

Ears the chipmunk - On the Skids

Miss Ears deMunk

Well now, isn't she just the cutest!  The more pictures we take of chipmunks, the more we believe they like to pose for them.  Of course this chippy knows a hand-out is on the way.  The skids provide a safe place for a chipmunk to stuff its face with sunflower seeds and not worry about big furry predators.   It also provides a vantage point from which to view your chippy territory and chase off any other fur-faces that think they can cash in on your cache.  When the skids are cut up for firewood, Ears and the other chipmunks will spend many hours running and hiding through the stacks.

Poor Little Booboo Munk

Ears with booboo. Turns out this nasty lump was caused by a bot fly.
Miss Ears DeMunk

It came as quite a shock when I went out to feed Miss Ears and found a large lump on her side, right behind her left shoulder.  My first thought was that it was a tumor, but she did not seem lethargic in any way.  In fact, she was as spry as ever following me over to the back stairs.

She got up on my lap and let me feel this growth.  It was the size of a large marble and quite hard, but didn't seem to be causing her any pain.  I could not see any scratches or bite marks so I didn't think she had been in a fight.

Within a weeks time the lump had begun to shrink and by the end of the second week I noticed she had punctured the bottom of it allowing it to drain.  By the middle of week 3, it was completely healed.  It appeared that she had a cyst.  What I would later learn was she had been bitten by a bottfly.  Au ugly insect that lays its eggs under the skin of animals.  If I never see another one of these things, it will be too soon.

Chipmunks are wonderfully resilient little animals.  They never cease to amaze me.  Now that the cold weather has settled in, my little friends have taken to their dens.  I won't be able to check up on Ears until the spring.  I hope every one has plenty of food and that they stay dry, warm and safe over the winter.

See you in February or March little chippies.

Discover the wild animals living in your backyard by establishing your own wildlife habitat.  A good place to start is by visiting the National Wildlife Federation.
