Chipmunks are solitary animals.  They are constantly on the watch for predators and other chipmunks who want to move into their territory and steal their food supply.  Sometimes one or both animals may suffer an injury.  It is rarely fatal and seldom very serious.  Fortunately, chipmunks are very resilient and their battle wounds heal quickly. Chip E.'s booboo was completely gone in a little over a week.

Sometimes people find small wild animals that have fallen out of their nest, are injured, or are presumed to have been abandoned by their mother. Before handling wildlife, contact a rehabilatator in your area.  These animals are very fragile and require expert care so that they can be returned to the wild.

The following site provides a list of licensed rehabilatators in Massachusetts including their telephone numbers.  For other states, do a "google" search for wildlife + rehabilatators + state.   Click here!

NOTE: Remember that it is illegal in most states to house wildlife if you are not licensed and that you can be fined.  It is in the best interest of the animal and all those concerned that you notify a rehabilatator as soon as possible.
