Over 2,000 species of plants and animals can be found within the park. One hundred and forty-five of these species are unique to the islands and found nowhere else in the world. Archeological and cultural resources span a period of more than 10,000 years. The isolation of the islands has left them relatively undeveloped, making them an exciting place for visitors to explore. Big Bend - Sometimes considered "three parks in one," Big Bend includes mountain, desert, and river environments. An hour's drive can take you from the banks of the Rio Grande to a mountain basin nearly a mile high. Here, you can explore one of the last remaining wild corners of the United States, and experience unmatched sights, sounds, and solitude. Rocky Mountain - This living showcase of the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains, with elevations ranging from 8,000 feet in the wet, grassy valleys to 14,259 feet at the weather-ravaged top of Longs Peak, provides visitors with opportunities for countless breathtaking experiences and adventures. Theodore Roosevelt - The colorful North Dakota badlands provides the scenic backdrop to the park which memorializes the 26th president for his enduring contributions to the conservation of our nation's resources. The park contains 70,447 acres divided among three units: South Unit, North Unit and the Elkhorn Ranch Unit. In the park you will find badlands, open prairie, hard wood draws, bison, prairie dogs and other wildlife, the Little Missouri River, and a past history that includes Theodore Roosevelt. Yellowstone - Established in 1872 as America's first national park. Located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, it is home to a large variety of wildlife including grizzly bear, wolves, bison, and elk. Preserved within Yellowstone National Park are Old Faithful and a collection of the world's most extraordinary geysers and hot springs, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
